A Word From The Executive Director
2019 was a great year for the LoveLife Foundation.
On Mothers Day, May 12, 2019, The Redemption Project with Van Jones aired on CNN. The response to the program has been overwhelmingly positive. A video clip posted by CNN has had over 14,000,000 views. As a result of my appearance on the Redemption Project, I was asked by Van Jones to participate in a prison reform forum with CPAC at the state prison in Philadelphia where Meek Mill was formerly incarcerated. It was an enlightening eye-opening experience . The group who presented the forum got 7,000 non-violent offenders released on Thanksgiving Day 2019.
I was also honored at the 2019 Studio City Film Festival along with the late great John Witherspoon. Two filmmakers were also presented with the 2nd Annual Donald E. Lacy, Jr. Social Justice Film Award. One of the filmmakers, Marc Anthony Robinson, was from Oakland and was in West Oakland the night LoEshe' was murdered. He also told me that as a child he remembered the marchers and all the events we did in the community and how the profound effect this all had on him.
On July 4th The LoveLife Foundation was recognized before the Oakland A's game. Yours truly threw out the first pitch and the LoveLife Foundation was selected as the community organization of the game. The Oakland A's showed a video on the big scoreboard and gave us 50 tickets to give away to the community. We also had 50 tickets for the Bay Bridge Series against the San Francisco Giants earlier in the season. A big THANK YOU to the Oakland A's for your support of the LoveLife Foundation and your presence in the community.
Our 2nd Annual Oakland's Finest Black Tie Gala & Toy Drive was a huge success. We were pleased to honor and recognize members of our community who are making great contributions to society.
We gave away over 750 toys at Scott's Seafood Restaurant on December 23, 2019. A great time had by all
